Best time to catch em' on the flats

Post by brunner2178 »

I currently fish Aucilla and St. Marks for trouts and reds. I wanted to get everyones input on the time they go in relation toi the tide. Myself, I usually try to get out about two hours before high tide. Anyone elses input would be valued.

Well since its almost 2 hours for me to get to the coast, I check the weather, and if its no howling, I go regardless.

The "Best" times according to them professionals is the last two hours before slack. It is said the best is a rising tide and an hour before slack is the very best. But if you have a front pushing in, you can generally throw all the above out. You can also throw all that out in the dead of winter, the fish generally feed when the water gets warm enough for them.

I personally prefer a rising tide, because I like to fish in close and I know I have twelve hours to get in and out. But like DS said I go when I can....

Chalk pretty well nailed it. But I fish when I can. I don't mind fishing the not so peak times. I learn a lot, and , sometimes, manage to catch a few fish when they aren't supposed to be biting.
What was I supposed to do today?
