Wade Fishing Panacea 10/24 (First Report)

Post by Hoxnan »

Had the day off of work and my last class let out early, so a buddy and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and try our luck on the incoming tide this evening. We got down there later than we had wanted and anticipated, but we were pleased to see how favorable the conditions were upon our arrival. We were wading so we didn't get much deeper than 4', but the visibility at that depth was crystal clear without much of a tint at all. My buddy was using a 1/4 oz mission jig head with a camo Gulp! mud minnow, and I opted for the gold mullet skitter walk. We started working our way around the marsh and towards the creek mouth we were targeting and it wasn't long before we got into some fish. I started it off with this 22" red Image
, and not long after that my buddy landed around a 13" flounder (picture pending). A few missed strikes later on the skitter walk, I came upon a huge school of upper slot reds and managed to coax a few of them to bite, the biggest of which was 26.5" on the nose. Image

My buddy also had an absolute doormat on the Gulp! until he spit it at the last second as he grabbed the leader. All things considered it was a beautiful evening, you can't really ask for much more.

You are already an accomplished fisherman and writer. All you need is more experience and we are willing to listen. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Good report, congrats. Best way to land a flatty when wading, reel the fish up to your belly then sandwich the fish between your hand and your belly/chest. Good luck

bet your buddy won't tie on a jig next time! Fish hatred grows quickly when your buddy keeps getting blown up; at least that is what my buddies say

Thank you!!! I appreciate all of the kind words, since I came to school up here i've gained a great deal of knowledge from the posts on this forum so its about time I start giving back. I'm going to try to get after it again this weekend.

@ SS-342 - Thank you, I look forward to becoming more active on the forum.

@ Bonecracker - They couldn't resist that darn plug, its a good one. But in all honesty the bite was hot enough any topwater would have sufficed.

Yum!!! My favorite fish to eat is a small flounder. Scaled, deheaded, scored and fried whole :lick: . I'm jealous
