Ran out of gas running wide open....

Post by Will_Fish_4_Food »

Is this a bad thing? I was crusing at about 30mph and ran the first tank bone dry. Everything kind of stopped all at once, and it was bogging down on the take off for the rest of the ride.

Did I mess anything up, is there something I should check on? Yamaha 50 2002.

Thanks for the feedback.

Did you reprime the fuel line and make sure it was venting? or you could have sucked some trash from the bottom of the first tank....

Like Chalk said, probably trash causing the slugish restarts. Check the in-line filter on the motor.
As far as damaging the the motor, we ALWAYS unhook the fuel line when we flush the motor after trips to drain the fuel from the carbs. Never had any problems. Motor is going on 24 yrs old.

Thanks for the replies...I did make sure the bulb was primed and I could reach top end speed, just boggs down on the takeoff.

I was just thinking it might be worse to be running wide open and then have everything stop at once :hammer:
