Keaton Beach 11/23/13

Post by DixieReb »

Finally got to take the wife fishing, we tried Keaton today about 0930. Water slick, tide falling and low at 1123. Not much action the first part of the day, caught a lot of small pins for bait and caught 2 keeper trout on them over near Yates Creek in about 4 ft. water. Lots of boats in that area, mostly moving around a lot and didn't see anybody catch anything. Heard on the radio traffic it had been slow today, several guys gave it up about 3 pm. I got tired of fishing so shallow over where we were(even with tide coming in, water only about 2-3 ft. deep.) About 3:15 I told her we will try one more spot on the way in, and if it didn't produce we would go. We stopped over near Dekle and found some 4.5 ft. water to float out cork rigs in. The bottom looked better there, more grass and water seemed a little darker. After a few minutes, Wife put an 18 incher in boat and after that one, we sat there and finished our limit. They were some healthy trout, several went 18 and over. I guess the moral here is you just have to wait 'em out. High tide was about 1730 this evening, and we got the fish right before it. Anyway, it was a great trip. It was good to finally catch some decent fish. We got the first three on pinfish and all the others on white and molting gulp. Tight lines! :lick:

That was a good, detailed report! Thank you! Yep, sometimes you just have to wait them out.

Good day of fishing Reb. Your fishing down in my neck of the woods. I've been catching all my fish in four foot plus lately. Nothing in less than four foot to mention. All on cut bait. The last batch we caught had bellies full of one to one and a half inch pin fish in them. Nothing else. I had one about 17 inches long the other day that had four small pin fish in his belly. That's enough to convince me to stick with pin fish. Our problem in the last few weeks was catching enough UNDER 20 inches to make a limit! Heck of a problem to have ain't it?
