St. Marks Inshore 12-15-13

Post by Jhults11 »

A buddy and I decided to brave the weather Sunday morning and see what was biting. Herb and I put in at the fort at 730 and were the first in the parking lot  It was drizzling lightly and it was overcast, must've scared everyone else off. Only saw 6 other boats all day. Made a little run to a favorite spot of mine and proceeded to wear their a$$es out :-D ! After we set anchor, herb set up on an upper slot red on his first cast. I followed with a big (for st marks) black drum about 20". For the next 40 mins it was a bite every cast with live shrimp on a 1/8 jig head. After we finished our redfish limit and had 8 big black drum we decided to go look for trout. We had to leave at noon so we had to be efficient in our search for the old yella mouths. We looked for about 40 mins and found where they were hiding. Put 7 keepers and about 30 shorts in the boat in about 30 minutes...best trout bite iv been on in a while! Could have finished our limit but we were running out of time and didn't want to be too greedy :-D ! All reds/drum were caught on live shrimp and all trout were caught on curly tail grubs bumped slowly on the bottom. Water temp was 65F. Had a blast! Unfortunately I won't be fishing for the next 2 weeks, ill be in Canada with the wifey for Christmas. Merry Christmas to all and get out there...they are practically jumpin in the boat.
