Motor Trim Issues

Post by LucWilliams »

Hello all and Happy Holidays!

My motor is having some trim issues. For a while now, it has had the issue of sounding very weak and almost dead when I trimmed it up before towing it. It would always trim all the way up and then as I went up and down throughout the day it was fine, like it just needed to warm up. It only ever sounded weak when trimming up, no problem going down. Today, I went to trim it up and then it stopped working and now won't go up or down. Battery is fully charged and battery was bought brand new this past summer. Thinking I'll have to tow it down to Shields or somewhere to have it looked at. I replaced the solenoid for the trim a little over a year ago but this seems to be a very similar or the same issue. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked your fluid level and the electrical contacts on your hydraulic pump. Going down requires no energy as it is merely a release of fluid from the cylinders.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Check all connections and grease the hinge pin "it can get stickier during the cold weather". But it really sounds like a power problem or a bad motor.

There should be a manual bypass you turn with a screwdriver to raise and lower by hand.

I had the exact same issue 13 years ago on a Hydro Sports bass boat that I had. A friend of mine (Bayrunner22) and I tried everything. Turns out the fluid was low. We refilled it and she worked like a champ.
