Took my Pops to LA to meet up with a former teammate and roommate from UWF that lives in New Orleans. What a weekend. Water was clean from all the cold fronts and the sight fishing was as good as it gets. In two days, my Dad and I caught more than 60 bulls in less than 3 feet of water. Biggest fish went 27 pounds and a 20 pounder was pretty standard. Don't think we caught more than 3 fish under 10 pounds. My buddy and his Dad did just as good or better in their Vantage. Their big fish went 39 pounds. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. All fish were successfully released.
Great report, Luc. The fishing there can be outstanding and y'all did a nice job taking advantage of the action.
You said all the fish were successfully released. However, holding big fish hanging vertically is really harmful if they are to be released. There is no support like they would have normally in the water and their organs are compressed. This goes for reds, trout, snook, tarpon, bass, etc. even with a gripper tool. Absolute best way is to leave the fish in the water and take photos or at least hold the fish horizontally and support the belly and get 'em back in the water as quickly as possible as many of your photos demonstrate.
Not trying to bust your chops, Luc. Just wanted to pass along a conservation tip that's endorsed by biologists, Coastal Conservation Association and the International Game Fish Association. I know you want those fish to survive so you can catch 'em again.
MAN, my arms are tired just imagining hooking up with that many nice fish Looks and sounds like one heckofa trip
