Big Bend fishing

Post by CharlieFSU »

Finally convinced the Pops to let me bring the boat over to school with me. I am a student at FSU wanting to take my boat out in the gulf. i have a 19 ft Cobia bay boat with trolling motor and depth finder. I am from Jacksonville and am used to fishing the marsh for reds and trout but am new to the gulf. I have already been fishing from kayak in the gulf and have done pretty good on the reds. I am looking for pointers on what/where to go now that can run out to deeper water. I am looking for tips on cobia, and maybe some bottom fishing areas for the spring and then when the water warms up more i want to target kings and tarpon. I am trying not to run too far offshore but will do what it takes to get dinner. Any guidance would be much appreciated. I am willing to put in from St. Marks lighthouse to dog island. I have heard a lot about dog island reef and from what i understand i have the perfect boat to fish it. Whats the deal there?
tight lines.

Cobes will be here sometime in April.
On a smooth day you can get out to artificial reefs that are 5-10 miles off the lighthouse and slay them and the kings.

There's nice gags there too and season here opens in a month. Hit the reefs for them or just troll around with stretch 25s.

Cya out there
