Where do you like your hook keepers positioned on your rods?
I know where I like mine (I think); about 8:00 (looking at the butt end) and about an inch above the foregrip; casting and spinning.
I ask for opinions because I'm about to add keepers to Quantum Smoke Inshore casting rod and spinning rod, and hoping for some feedback before pulling the trigger.
The rods come with hook keepers, but (to me) they are in the stupidest place imaginable; 6:00 BENIETH the foregrip (top part of the blank between the split grips), between the reel and the butt.
So what say you, BBF, about hook keeper position preferences?

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
Re: On Hook Keepers
I'll have to think about placement but my gut says in line with the guides above the grip.

Re: On Hook Keepers
I've built a number of rods and typically go with the 8 o clock position on spinning rods. Gets it out of the way of the main line and puts it in position for my left hand, left hand reel. I also typically put it above the foregrip and above any decals just to minimize the chances of scratching those up.
Re: On Hook Keepers
Use plastic tie wraps, the kind with the loop on the end. not pretty. but cheap and can be put anywhere
Re: On Hook Keepers
When I build a rod and normally it's for a bass fisherman due to where I live, I recommend putting it on top above the fore grip or reel seat. Reason being that most bass fisherman have carpet in their boat and it keeps the hooks out it. This works for left and right handed reels. I typically use the "drop shot hook keeper" like the one Bman posted and said he didn't like so much. I understand why most people don't like it but again from a bass fisherman perspective, using that kind of hook keeper really helps them out. Mainly keeps them from having to undo any Texas rigged plastic to hook their hook.

Re: On Hook Keepers
I can see what people like about the drop shot hook keepers. They are easier when your hooking a Texas rig worm.
But, when I use them hooks seem to bounce off more easily.
May just be me

Re: On Hook Keepers
Bman- this is true, the hooks come undone easily with this style hook keeper. most saltwater boats have vertical rod holders and with a "slight modern chop" the hooks will come undone pretty much every time!
