Left the fort a little after noon, stopped and caught some pinfish, and headed out to about 30 feet and started trolling. Picked up 1 legal red and 1 short trolling and marked some good bottom in a few places. After a while, we decided to go back to one of the holes we had marked earlier.

Dropped some squid a few times and picked up a few grunts. Then dropped a live pinfish and the rod went down as soon as it got to the bottom--broke off on setting the hook. (It was new 40 lb. Trilene, must have had a bad spot in it??). After that, we started boating the groupers. They were nailing it as fast as you could get it down. The third one I pulled up was a 24" gag with my hook and leader that I had lost earlier still in his mouth.

The feeding frenzy only lasted about 20 minutes or so. Then it just stopped completely. Hit a couple more holes on the way in without even a bite. Brought six keepers to the house. Caught a few shorts and threw back several that were technically legal, but they couldn't tolerate a little shrinkage in the cooler.
I must fish.
