Bill -
I need help with a Minn Kota 80lb bow mount tiller handle. It is serial no. WWAH2473578.
It has a 62" shaft which is way too tall for my boat. Just under the point where the bracket hooks to the motor shaft there is a black collar with two allen bolts in it. The previous owner told me that if I could get the collar loose the lower part of the shaft would slide into the upper part and the overall length of the motor could be reduced.
After this weekend's NFGFC tournament, I managed to get the collar off, but can not get the motor shaft to compress. Can this be adjusted?
This is one of the Minn Kota's that rotates about 1 or two times faster at the foot than at the tiller. (You don't have to spin the handle all the way around to move the foot a complete rotation).
Any advice is much appreciated. I can be reached at 509-3116 in Tallahassee if you prefer to discuss this on the phone.
Thank you.
Steve

Re: Update MinnKota Reconnditioned List April
Wanted to say thanks to Bill for getting back to me on my question above. Looks like my trolling motor does not adjust after all, which is not the answer that I wanted, but Bill definitely knows his stuff.
Maybe time to add a raised front casting platform so Jumptrout can reach the tiller handle on my oversized trolling motor~!

We discussed all that. He said he could do it, but did not recommend going that route. I will use the motor like it is for now, and possibly upgrade at some point in the future.

A little challenging to operate when the throttle handdle is nose high and the turny thingy indicator is above your eyesight.
WHOSE FISH IS IT?
Re: Update MinnKota Reconnditioned List April
Steve, you wouldn't consider a trade for a ~50" riptide foot pedal 70lb thrust trolling motor? It's a 2002 model. I want a tiller controlled and 62" would be about right for me. The 50" measurement is the length of just the shaft.

I appreciate the offer, don't think so. I don't like the foot control ones in saltwater.
You might give Bill a call and see if he would take it on trade.

Thanks for the reply, I might check it out. I don't use it much but when I do I don't like the foot control either. I did look up the serial number and it's an 06.

I highly recommend getting a Riptide I Pilot, save your back. Let the GPS do the work and you fish. I don't like fighting a handle or pedal, the remote just hands around my neck. I set cruise control on the speed I want to fish, say .3 if cruising creeks for reds and set autopilot in the direction I want to go. It has an anchor mode too.
Steve, I have had many shafts cut down and never had a problem. They can also just swap to a shorter shaft.
