Update on May 10-16 trip

Post by newboy »

Got on the water for the first time Sunday. I had a complete boat load of people so I wanted to stay close. Worked the cut area of Alligator bay and managed 2 short reds. Monday ran further west to Lanark Reef area and caught three keeper trout and maybe 6 shorts. Tuesday went to same area and managed one keeper trout and a load of catfish. At that point I am feeling defeated so I said lets go hit the big oyster bar in the mouth of the Ochlocknee river because I have experience there. We hit some grass flats first and was rewarded with a catfish. Wind is so stinking bad today I got irritated quickly and said lets go try the bar. Absolutely no luck there and tired from the wind I am now on the porch enjoy a totty because its the only thing I seem to be doing right this week! :(

Yep. It was bad this morning. We left around 4 this afternoon to beat the weather coming in. We tried it around noon and it was so rough, we just gave up and loaded the boat up. FWC checked us on the way in. Nice guys, Kind of felt for them out in that rough stuff!

Yesterday though, was a different story. We headed over toward dog island making a few stops along Turkey Point and Lanark reefs, with not so much luck. Shorts and a few sharks. Anchored at Dog Island and had a nice lunch on the sand. Worked our way back toward the point, and got a phone call that they were catching them at the end of the point in 4-5 ft of water. (Did you get my E-mail?). Anyway, Caught some keepers and had a nice fresh trout dinner!

We never did get to get out to the grouper holes. Just too rough.

It was nice meeting you guys, and hope to see you at the point again sometime......

Dubble, We enjoyed meeting you too and I appreciate the location for the reef. We toughed the rough water to check it out this morning. We road the nasty long enough to catch several sharp nose sharks, it wasn't what I came to do but wife and friends had fun.
