skunked my son out of St Marks this morning

Post by noleswin »

Left out of Shields about 715. Headed east toward Gray Mare Rock. Stopped in about 4.5 foot and just drifted casting a gulp. My 13 year old fished hard but never hooked up. I landed 9 all trout and 5 were keepers. I talked alot of smack. Fun trip.

That is hard to understand but it happens to my wife and I sometimes.

A good friend recently went with me fishing in the gulf. It was his first time fishing the gulf but he is a good freshwater fisherman. He went through a period of time without even a bite. We swapped reels/rods and I immediately caught three trout - bam, bam, bam using his rig.

Don't crow to loud. Next time he just might put the monkey on your shoulders. :)

Fished the same area Saturday am early and could not work the topwater so changed over to a Pink bass assassin on jig and caught at 18" first cast. I only had on in pink and only caught one more keeper trout. Fished out 6',7',8' and 10' did not find any trout in the deep water. Lots of folks showed up by 10 and it looked like the scallop flotilla. Carried the grandbaby up the St. Marks to see the Manatee and the deerflies.

the grass was definitely bad I lifted the motor so we would drift sideways. Both fished straight down wind so we didn't pull across the grass drift. By fishing with the direction it floats we were able to miss grass about every half dozen casts.
