Fishing the Wacissa River
I was wondering if anyone had any information on fishing for bass on the Wacissa River just outside of town. I live about 20 minutes away and it seems like a place where the should be some bass in it but have never heard of anyone going out there and trying to fish for them. Also seems like it should be pretty accessible with a small boat or kayaks. Just seeing if anyone had any info
Re: Fishing the Wacissa River
It is a lot of fun to fish out of a kayak.
Clear water and lots of spots to stop for a swim.
I have only caught smaller bass there. More stumpnockers than you can imagine.
Fun to fish and a beautiful place.

Its worth a try just for the scenery. However, this is the time of the year for yellow flies, so be prepared.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Re: Fishing the Wacissa River
I used to put in at the headwater of the Itchetucknee in an old john boat when I was in school at UF. They would let us in to fish about 30 minutes before they would let the tubers in so we could get a head start. It was a blast on ultrslight tackle and your pics brought back some fun times. We would just drag a 6' 1/4" well chain behind the boat and it would keep us headed straight down the river. It was fun watching the bass dart out of the weeds to attack a Snagless Sally or Beetle Spin. A Mepps Minnow was another killer lure there. Fun times. Fishing crystal clear water is fun.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

6" lizards and baby brush hogs are good baits as well. Suwannee bass bed in Feb/Mar and the LM follow them in Apr/May. The river gets hit hard by locals and watch the rocks when it is down.
Don't major in the minor stuff in life

Great bass fishing on the Wacissa from a kayak. Toss spinnerbaits and beetle spins.
