Reds in Jacksonville!

Post by Bonecracker »

Spent 10/24-25 with a huntin buddy of mine (Trevor Luce) that guides for a living! We headed up to Hanna Mills Creeks area in Jacksonville Florida to chase reds on fly in super shallow water in his little Hells Bay Whipray. All fishing was done on the last 3 hours of the out going tide so the area we were fishing required a technical poling skiff as we were chasing fish in less than 12 inches of water. I cannot tell you how much fun it was seeing 200+ redfish tailing, backs out of the water, chasing grass shrimp and small mullet. The sounds were just amazing hearing those reds feed all around us!! First day I did ok for not throwing a fly rod in 3 years! Caught 3, broke 2 off, but the highlight of my day was watching my buddy Trevor fly fish!! Damn he was good!! He poled me around for 2 hours and I caught 3 fish. I poled him around for 30 minutes and he caught 5 reds. Nothing like watchin a true pro throw a fly rod. Saturday was pretty much the same as Friday as I decided to do more poling and more watching as he did his thing from the casting platform. We ended up the day with a fine dinner of blackened redfish and I limped back home to Thomasville Sunday morning!!
