The season is starting off slow for me. I spent some time at Rotary Reef on Friday and didn't manage to bring one in. I saw four other boats who also didn't seem to be having luck. I trolled and fished structure. The water conditions were nice all day.
Today I hit the water at 7:30 and found the water to be more choppy than yesterday. However, I was eager and pressed on. I trolled southeast of the Shoals in water ranging from 30 to 45 feet for a few hours and did not manage to find anything. I managed to make it in before the rain.
Still grouperless. Anyone else having luck?

Re: Still looking for grouper :(
I'm going to try again next week as soon as my boat gets fixed. Went on Thursday and engine overheated not too far from the dock (figure the water pump is gone) although I ran it all day two weeks before. First time in my life getting towed in on my own boat, but it was nice to have the towing service, for no additional charge. I looked back at my fishing records for the last ten years and noted that early April trips were pretty tough on grouper catching, seemed dependent on water temperature, rainfall, bait. Better luck to all of us, soonest.tallykenj wrote:The season is starting off slow for me. I spent some time at Rotary Reef on Friday and didn't manage to bring one in.
