Capricorn/Prodigy Update

Post by Littoral »

I sent it back and went Shimano. First, compliments to Cabela’s return policy. They make it pretty easy. I bought one of their Prodigy spinning reels last fall. It’s a Diawa Capricorn copy but not quite a clone because it is different. I spent a lot of time trying to find out how it was different without any real success. No matter, it wasn’t holding up. I don’t live to fish and then put up with inferior gear when I finally get to go.
The reel started sounding like a coffee grinder and it’s gotten worse. Maintenance hasn’t helped.
See ya.
The rod that I got with the Prodigy as a combo sells for $140. I've never spent near that on a rod before and as nice as it was my other $50 rods were really just as good. I had to send the rod back too because it was part of a combo deal. That part actually worked out to be a good thing because the rod I picked to exchange is a $90 St Croix that is amazing. It’s their new tide master and it feels like it’s part of my arm. It’s got the feel that I expected from the $140 one. I added a Shimano Symetre to the new rod. At $80 the Symetre has nearly everything the Stradic does for $40 less.
