I have a question about finding deeper trout. I have always tried to look for the grassy areas to locate trout and this is generally in areas less than 6 feet deep. When I go much deeper than that I begin to lose the bottom grass. I hear people talking about catching fish in 8-10 feet of water and I am trying to figure out if this means they are not fishing around grass or if there is grass this deep and I just can't locate it. Will trout "settle" in large sandy areas that are deeper?

until last weekend in cedar key I was finding trout in 6 to 8 foot of water with grass close to some kind of bar or structure. last weekend nothing seem to work for myself o r for several of my friends that are guides very well. water temp has come down due to the rain 3 or 4 degrees I don't know if the rain is the problem or not. we did catch a few legal trout but I can't brag about it. I got a report of fish being caught in8 to 10 foot water on sea horse reef with grass with potholes

Yes they will. One spot that is our summer go to is a sand bar that comes up to about 4 foot depth. There is some grass on the edges. There is a drop off to about 7 feet along the edges and that is where we catch the trout. Spotty bottom, mostly sand. I have several places marked like that that are mixed bottom. Usually have to deal with ladyfish there too. And some Macks.

This. You can still locate hard bottom in 10'. With hard bottom you often find rock grass
