Fuel system service
Any recommendations for someone to clean the fuel system and replace the fuel filter in a 2003 Tahoe? The filter is the original, and takes a special tool to remove it (it's a snap-in model). I'm sure there is gunk in the tank too.

Re: Fuel system service
Gasoline is a pretty good solvent so the fuel filter should catch most of any oil-based gunk. I swear by Lucas Oil products as far OTC fuel system cleaners go. I'd personally use the Lucas Oil treatment for an entire tank, then have fuel filter changed. Intake side, I like Seafoam applied through a vacuum line to the intake manifold; generally the EGR line going to the throttle body. A modern gas tank usually needs little attention unless water got into the system. I could be wrong too.
Generally I aim for preventative maintenance and I run Shell V-Power exclusively. I've never had fueling issues with my VW, but that may not be the case for all makes and models. A new fuel filter does do wonders to an older motor, but the gas tank may not necessarily be the culprit.
Just my 0.02c. As far as shops go, my man is David Pritchard at Pritchard Automotive at 3086 West Tharpe, Tallahassee. He's done an excellent front end rebuild for me at a fair price with swift turnover time. In any case, good luck on the truck.

Al Bass at Bass Auto on Capital Circle NE near Miccosukee Rd. He does all the work on my survey trucks other than the diesel. Very reasonable and honest. 765-4595
