Charts and reef datA

Post by livewildforlife »

I am in process of shopping for my first boat and planning for the eventuality of expanding my fishing range to previously in reachable areas via wading in from shore. I really would like advice on where to find reef data and obtain charts preferably for free for northern gulf along florida and Alabama coast to include up to 100 miles offshore. If I have to pay a subscription to join a service or obtain info than id highly like advice on the best service. I would appreciate any And all feedback.

Install the free Maptech Chart Navigator viewer on your PC and download the latest data files for free from NOAA here!

http://www.charts.noaa.gov/RNCs/RNCs.shtml

EDIT: From what I am reading, Maptech no longer makes the free viewer. You can still find it in some places on the internet. You need version 5.07 or 5.08.

Otherwise, here is a another free viewer. You just zoom in on the area you are interested in. As you zoom, detail pops up.

http://earthnc.com/chartviewer/

And I also like the one at Navionics, a link to it is at the top of this page under "area charts"

You are welcome!
The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

Navionics has a pretty good web chart that s free. on the bottom left of the chart you can use sonar chats which gives different info.
