Who else on here enjoys taking the wife and kids on a underwater Easter egg hunt?? It's a great way to get kids on the water while making lasting memories. Image. Image. Image. So who's all is looking forward to going.

Love scalloping! Up north every spring for a brief period of time, morel mushrooms would pop up in the woods and everyone was scowering the forests to find them. The first time I went scalloping it reminded me of mushroom hunting only underwater. I can't wait for them to come back in season!
NOAA reports are the reason I have trust issues.

Hard to believe how early the season opens now. Been scalloping for a long long time. Try to take the Boy Scout troop every year. This year my kids (who are all over 21) seem to have a renewed interest in going, which sounds good to me!
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Made plans to go to St. Joe Bay the 2nd week of July, now the bay will be closed. What a bummer, but still going just wont be able to scallop. Had a good year at St. Marks last year. Hope it will be good this year but only the floods will determine that. Look forward to going somewhere. Love to eat some fresh bay scallops.

I was told that FWC is seriously considering closing our waters for Scalloping due to red tide and stuff this past winter killing off a large part of our scallop population. I was told if we want to go scalloping we will have to go south like to the Crystal River area.

FWC is considering closing St. Joe Bay for this season due to red tide impacts. There has been no mention of closing Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor and Dixie counties to my knowledge. Surveys around St. Marks show a very high early scallop count.

WHAT SILVERKING SAID. Haven't read a SINGLE WORD nor HEARD first-hand a single credible word that speaks to scallop closure being weighed ANYWHERE OUTSIDE GULF COUNTY / PORT ST. JOE.

Anybody wants to challenge that, please name your sources. Those who follow the FWC reported scallop counts know it's QUITE COMMON for one area to be hit hard while nearby areas are near record highs, especially if red tide is in play which it IS WITH GULF COUNTY / IS NOT with Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor and Dixie counties.

Here's a link from FWC directly that speaks to GULF COUNTY ALONE.

Here's a link that shows how much counts (PRE-SEASON survey counts) can vary from year-to-year, location to nearby location.
