Thinking of a day trip to steinhatchee from
Bainbridge on Saturday but have no clue whether fish are on the flats or in the river. Fished st George a couple weeks ago and fish were definitely in the bay and not rivers but haven't been down to the hatch in awhile! Not a huge fan of sitting at the suicide hole so would want to venture out rocky point/dallus creek way and fish the flats.

Check with Hit-N-Miss, he was down there last weekend. I don't think it was on fire.

. Considering I only caught 1 keeper. I don't know how much help I'd be. There were a bunch of people in the river but I did not see any catching fish. By the way what is the suicide hole?Flint River Pirate wrote:Check with Hit-N-Miss, he was down there last weekend. I don't think it was on fire.

There is a deep hole where channel drops from 10 to 20+ feet right between the public ramp and seahag. When trout are in river you can have dozens and dozens of boats all trying to fish the same small hole! That hole and the hole between marker 24 and 21 are good indicators of whether people think trout are in river. If both are full and lines are tight you might wanna stop. If not we usually head out and search flats near mouths of the rivers.

February 2017 fishing forecast Steinhatchee
http://seahag.com/january-2017-fishing- ... -forecast/
"The two most active areas for this coming month are going to be in the river, as the trout come in to deeper water to escape the frigid flats, and on nearshore rockpiles as the sheepshead get into spawning mode."
[Trouble with this fishing forecast is that the flats haven't been nearly "frigid" enough to drive significant numbers of larger trout up into the river. Thurs 71F/40F Fri 68F/49F Sat 74F/53F Sun 76F/55F]

Unfortunately the "frigid flats" aren't so frigid this year. Normally river this time of year is no brainer but with all the warmth I think the fish are as confused as us fishermen!2Salty wrote:February 2017 fishing forecast Steinhatchee
