50 amp output will require a 10,000 watt generator.

I would like to buy one. I have seen portable generators with 30 amps at 5600 watts.

Your voltage output depends on the wattage of the generator.
A 4000 WATT GENERATOR WILL PRODUCE ONLY 80 VOLTS OF POWER for a 50 amp circuit
Amps X Volts = Watts.
Watts ./. volts equal amps.

I've heard that an old TA-312 Army crank style telephone works just as well. :-D

what he said
you got to watch for the voltage drop on that low of watts
when you put that kind of load on it the voltage WILL DROP

also, just because the genny has a 30amp outlet, doesn't mean it provides 30amp of power. Some will use that same twistlock across their whole line of generators regardless of size. Volume pricing for the part. There is no problem running 20amps of power through a 30amp receptacle, but could be issues going the other way.

I have heard/read really good things about the predator generators from Harbor Freight. Consumer reports lists the 7kw model as a best buy.
