Econfina fun trip

Post by Sir reel »

I’ve been promising our Church’s Minister of Music and his Son Mathew that I’d take them fishing for quite some time.

It was more difficult than I’d originally thought to find a time when his work schedule and mine along with Matt’s school would all align along with the stars, wind, waves, etc. We had finally decided on this past Monday but the weather was looking iffy with the marine forecast calling for 3 to 4 following 2 days of small craft advisories. We decided (again) to try for Tuesday and this time we made it. We put in at Econfina around 7:30 and had plenty of water to go out on and Matt did a great job of getting us out the river.

The conditions turned out to be FLAT calm, very hazy, very warm, and very clear water.

My primary objective was to find enough action for Mathew to enjoy himself and give Dad a chance to enjoy the fun. Rather than try to hunt down Trout or Reds , I decided to keep Matt into the pin fish and if something else happened by that would be OK as well. We started floating about half way to the platform (we were floating cause there wasn’t any breeze for a drift) The spot tails, and other assorted bait fish were cooperating just fine and Matt was having a good time.

We never did bring in anything that I would want to throw in the cooler but we did have a blast.

Caught bunches of pins, one lizard fish, 2 small rock bass , 3 sharks…2 of which we boated. The sharks were the source of much excitement for the party.

I’ve always said you need to scale down your tackle if you really want to get the most fun out of the experience and George sure did a great job of scal'n down his tackle. :-D

Don’t know when I ever enjoyed a day this much and no fish were put in the cooler. Nothing beats having a youngster on board who likes to fish and finds almost everything exciting about the trip. I appreciate George and Matt letting me share a great day.

Great Pics Sir-
Sharing the experience with others is wonderful, especially with kids who are interested. I hope to have similar experiences. The pictures really show how perfect everything was.
