Fished the flats today, grass is growing in most, but not all areas.
Caught lots of short trout, and one great big Spanish Mackeral.
The wind picked up in the afternoon and the bite seemed to die.
Water temps 70f to 72f

I fished East of St. Marks 3-14 9:30ish - 3:30ish. Caught more trout than I expected, mostly in 3-4' deep area. Had small school (4) of large Reds swim by around 11:45 at St. Marks boundary. Water was very clear but still chilly. Ended up with 5 trout and 1 Flounder in the box. Overall it was a really nice day to be on the water.

Fished a couple of hours Saturday. Didn't get into big numbers, but where I found clear water and transition from 6' to 3' we found a trout. The ratio of shorts to keepers was about 50/50. Saw schools of what looked like blues or Spanish working bait schools.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Re: Flats reports???
Put in this morning at the fort, the river was slick as ice. The wind picked up a little and it was bumpy on the flats. Caught 3 within 30 minutes of each other around 9-10 o'clock. One was right at 15 and the other 2 shorts. Fished for another hour or so on the flats and moved back to the river. Not much happening there either. Ended the day catching an 18" trout off an oyster bed about 1/2 mile south of the fort. Decided that was a good one to call it a day. Weather was partly cloudy and water temp was around 71. Hopefully it picks up soon. I was fishing topwater and a mirrodine most of the morning.
Re: Flats reports???
water temp is already in the 70's

Going tomorrow. Will post report. Anyone got a tip on Econfina? It’s been awhile since I’ve been.

Re: Flats reports???
Water temp was 74.5 in front of the lighthouse. Only had an hour or fishing. My friend's high school daughter set the hook on the biggest tarpon i've ever seen. Probably 5' and cleared the water, spit the hook(10lb test), simply trout setup.. Top 5 moment and I wasn't even fishing. Happened 15' from the boat.
Other than that we caught 3 short trout in 3-4' of water. Fished from 6pm-7pm.

Paddled a little over 10 miles around Piney Island for one short trout and one nice 20" trout. However there were THOUSANDS of sheepshead on the flats on the east side of the island. It was flat calm with a foot or a foot and a half of water and I could see 5-6 schools of a hundred plus fish at a time within eyesight pushing wakes. Didn't have any live bait and they wouldn't touch a DOA shrimp so I quickly gave up casting to them.
