Jodie and I launched at the fort about 0630. Headed straight to a spot west of the river where I caught a few fish a few weeks ago. We were surprised to find spanish schooling right where we sat her down. It was a comedy act to see if we could get a bait in the water. I had a Gotcha rigged, and threw it amongst them. I immediately hooked up........with a ladyfish. After 10 minutes I had managed 1 spanish, and Jodie was 3 lures shy of a full tackle box. After the dust settled we settled into fishing. We caught several shorts, and a couple of blues, but no keeper trout. I hooked up with something that hit the bait at about 100 mph, and peeled 50 yards of line in a heart beat. Whatever it was, I couldn't turn or slow it down. It finally broke my leader. The water was dark tea stained, and a little muddy, at this spot. So, we headed east. Started in 3.5 feet of water south of the rock garden. Caught a few shorts. We kept working deeper and looking for good bottom. Finally found what we were looking for in 7 feet of water, Even though the water was stained, we were getting bit. Jodie caught a keeper trout, Then I proceeded to do the trash can slam. I caught several lizard fish, pinfish, spots, rock bass and ladyfish. We finally managed 1 more keeper each. We never found clear water. The water temp got up to 90 degrees by mid afternoon. Finished the day with 1 spanish and 3 keeper trout. But it was time well spent with my best friend.

Who determined it's ONLY a grouper boat? You, of all people, should know that any boat I own has to be multi-tasking. Besides, I had to test the trolling motor and front bottom machine. :-D
