Econfina 10/31

Post by Mark K »

Hey guys. Sorta new to the site here. My younger brother (Georgiasportsman) told me about it and I thought I'ld share our fishing trip with y'all.
After looking at the weather Sat. night I decided a half day trip was in order for Sunday morning. We (me and my 7yr. old son Brennan) arrived at the rampat about 0700. It was some kind of foggy!! We ran out just about 3/4 of a mile from the tripod and started fishing. Brennans second cast of the morning produced a 17" trout. I knew then it was gonna be a good day. By 0930 we had 1 limit, then it slacked off and took us until about 1230 to get the next limit. Now I realize the limit is 5 per person but normally we just fish until we get our 10 - never really keeping up with who caught how many keepers. Well this day was different. I knew I had my five and Bren had four and just one more was needed. Of course, that's when I hooked a monster trout. I finally got the fish to the boat where Bren was waiting with the net. At the sight of the fish my son got a little over anxious and tried to swipe at it and missed. I guess he felt bad and grabbed the line trying to get the fish. Well, the fish got off. I saw how hurt he looked so I told him not to worry about it and we'll catch another. Three casts later he hooks and lands an 18" trout that completes the limit. That was the first time he's actually limited out and he was excited. It wasn't until then that I could rag him a little about missing my fish.
The weather was perfect the entire morning. The wind was coming outa the E/NE early then switched to SE later in the day. We caught almost all of the fish on DOA under CT'S. A small handful came on Mirror Lures just barely reeled along the top of the grass. We caught most of the fish shallow(3-4ft).

Welcome MK :D

Good report and a good job as well. A seven year old who limits out.... THAT"S GOOD STUFF!!

Were you 3/4 of a mile from the tripod ....North, South, East, or West??

:D Thanks again for the report.
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

Great report! Thanks for Sharing!
That big ole trout that got off at the boat is very experienced!
He's done it to me more times than I care to remember! :-D

Good job! Wish I could have been there with y'all. We've taught Brennan too well. :D Looking forward to the days he can take us so we can sleep on the ride down.

Sir Reel: I believe they were about 3/4 of a mile SSW of the tripod.

Thanks for the welcomes! My son has been fishing and hunting with me since he was two years old. He never complains while were out regardless of the weather. He's counting the days til duck season. This will be his first year taking a gun. He's also taken over my Stradic. I told him Santa may get him one for Christmas but he said no need to he's got mine!!!
I was hoping to head back down this weekend but the weather looks like it might be a little on the rough side. We might head to Mexico Beach instead and fish Crooked Island - the wind doesn't come into play much there.
