St Marks Nov 5,6,&7 2004

Put in at Shields Marina around 11:00 am on Friday (11/05/04) and headed toward rock island, just north of marker 28. Weather was great and wind a little strong from north. Went out with two other flats-ready boats five other guys (1 from Atlanta, 2 from Fernandina Bch, 1 from Tampa, 1 from Gainesville, and myself. So, three boats total and six fisherman. We stayed on rock island for Friday and Saturday night and fished a couple low and high tides as well as everthing between. We fished the oyster bars on both sides of the river around marker 28 and all the way out to the Gulf on falling tides, the flats from the bird rack to right in front of the light house, multiple little rivers and inlets, grounded the boats and waded, and at the edge of the channel. We threw Cajun Thunders with live shrimp, CTs with Saltwater Assasins (every color imaginable), slide floats with finger mullet, float with needle fish, spoons, top water plugs, grubs without a float, and plain old cut bait on a hook. To total this adventure off, we tried some of the best habitat imaginable and threw everthing and type of food for those bad boys and caught probably 35 short trout, two keepers, multiple lizard fish, catfish, and two shark. We had a great time and the weather was unreal and it was good to see some old buddies, but would have liked a little better action. It is sometimes hard to figure those boys out, maybe high pressure(?). Must say the island camping was great with a couple chilly brews and that sunset are unbeatable. About the only thing maybe better than the sunset was the amount of star cover at midnight. That was more stars than I have seen a while--unreal. If anybody has an idea of the missing link from my puzzle, let me know

Sounds like an EXCELENT time was had the fish just did not seem ta be hungry this entire weekend "salt or fresh"

Nice report- Quality outdoor fun, whether by yourself or with friends, is what it's all about in my book. Bringing back a big mess of fish or a big buck, is just a bonus.
