wakulla river fishing
Went down the Wakulla river today caught a couple of nice bass.
To my surprise I had to through them back in, did not bring anything to keep them in. Oh well it was fun being on the water anyway

I like the size larger than that, the one with the rounded props. In chrome, it's my all time favorite top-water for trout and reds. The yellow/black stripes and white/black stripes work well too.
Although I have caught keeper reds on crankbaits while fishing for bass in that long, deep hole just below the lower bridge. I believe it was about this time of year, maybe later, but it has been a number of years since I did it.

Something else that works well around weeds is a Johnson Silver Minnow spoon with a pork rind trailer.
The broke-back Rapalas are good, but in real weedy places, like most of the Wakulla, anything with treble hooks tends to get hung up a lot.
Does the Wakulla still have the long eel grass weeds? It used to pretty much be one long weed bed with a sort of a channel in it from the upper bridge to Shell Island. I've sporadically heard that the manatees have moved in since the last time I fished it in '92.
I've also heard there's been a lot of problems from the spring down with fertilizer run-off.

Havent heard of the fertilizer run off, Its still grassy some but I have no problems with it I still can catch the fish. You should go back out there and give it another try.
Oh yeah the silver minnow spoon works great also. Manatees do go up into the river I have never seen one only heard one at night when down there at a friends house. But the fishing is still good
