Sat AM, Tailing Reds?
Reds aren’t nearly my specialty but with a negative low Saturday morning and a northeast wind projected at 10 knots there should be decent visibility of fish moving in shallow water. As my imagination is somehow prone to do I find myself considering the optimum approach to hook up with one of those tempting tails waving back & forth.
I'm wondering what will be the best place to go (other than Bullwinkles). Does anybody have a recommendation? I’ll be in my kayak but even Wakulla Beach may be too low. And, what’s the best artificial to throw at a tailing red. Spoon, soft bait…?

Lit...What's wrong with Wakulla.....Go to the place I told you about....The fish are in the shallow stuff....I almost stepped on what I believe to have been a 30" trout in 12 inches of water the other day.....As far as tailing..I can count on one hand the number of reds I have seen tailing....Just fish.....You could come over to St. Joe...if you do, bring another kayak and call me
....
My weapon of choice is the "Secret Weapon" and a standard SWA jig n' grub....They feed well on stick baits too....

I think you're right about going there it's just that on a negative tide, in my kayak, I've sat in the mud at Wakulla Beach waiting for water to paddle. Not pretty. I know how to negotiate that place though so that might just be the place.
Like you, I've also seen very few reds tailing but when it's happened it was at Wakulla Beach. I read your story about the big trout right beside you in shallow water. You must have a nice spot because they're hard to find in St Andrews.

It's looking like it's gonna be dead low in the morning. I'm probably gonna hit Wakulla Beach about noon and hope their's some water by then. High tide is around 3:30 so their should be enough to paddle. I'm not any help on reds though. The few I catch are always bycatch while trout fishing. Never have been able to figure them out and catch them with any luck.

Try this. Put in a Shell Point beach. Follow the oyster bar to the right, the way into Spring Creek. Check on the backside of the first island you come to. I have seen them tailing there a few times. Although they wouldnt have anything to do with anything I threw at them. Never had luck with a tailing red. More luck like Chalk said, "Just fish".
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.
