Aucilla River 12/17/04

Post by Fisherman989 »

Went to Aucilla River today. Couldn't get down there till about 1300hrs and that was a real bad time because of the tides. Low tide was as 1230...and it was low..low. Several boats were backed up trying to launch. One had launched but when he pulled his trailer out of the "hole" he had launched in...the trailer hung on the side of the hole...he put the pedal down....and twisted the tung of the trailer about 65 degrees...and dislocated his axel. What a mess.
We waited about an hour...till we could launch in the hole on the south side of the ramp.
Away we went down river. There were a few boats there that had put in earlier in the day. None of them had the first fish. Two boats of friends were there....they had not had a bite all day. Well....I figured they really dont know how it's done... and I proceeded to spend the rest of the day there....really knowing how to do it....and I didn't get the first bite all afternoon. Partner did the same thing.. One of the other friends boats, 2 guys, did just like we did. Nothing. The other boat of two experienced fishermen got 2 bites out on the flats about 1 mile from the entrance. Those 2 bites were two trout, 16 & 17in long...both caught on jigs. They hit 2 rocks on the way out there and goofed up their propeller.
We fished the river from right north of the island to the pole at the mouth. Jigs and mirrolures were used.
It's true what you heard about water all out in the woods. The river is full of dark water too. Temperature of the river was 54 degrees.
Don't know if it's over....when it never even got started....but I ain't going back real soon. :(

Didn't seem to be around Keaton Sat. either. Amazingly clear though. You could see the bottom of the canal clear as a bell. Didn't even see any mullet anywhere.

Dang all the 'no luck reports. 'Guess y'all done caught em up, or they on a holiday in warmer waters.
'Might as well, sat around and read up on the weather or play with the baby's mama, with all this down fishin' time..
