Well Saturday sounded good for Grouper with the wind forcast but as everyone knows fog was the order of the day. We changed our plan, took to inshore trout fishing ( they just don't pull like a grouper ). We put in at around 10:30 with enough water to get going, we headed east towards Hickory Mounds, the lure choices were live shrimp, catch 2000's. We never left one area probably 1/4 mile total. We fished a creek mouth and way back in a creek catching trout in and along the way. They seemed pretty thick in the creek. Left em biting, never fished over 3 ft max depth. Total tally, 15, keeper trout, 1 redfish , 24in. We only had 3 shorts all day. Seems most of them were somewhere else. Lure colors , mullet ( my favorite ) and chart. ( Redfish hit the mullet ) Odd catches, 1 oyster fish, 1 blue crab who came all the way in the boat and was still eating his shrimp.
Sure wish I was brave enough ta fish outta there I woulda been in that water quick yesterday That's some fine catchin ya'll done and that is a super fine lookin boat ya got
Good report Frank. Been think'n bout hit'n that area for a few weeks now but always seem to end up at Saint Marks. Wish I'd been "fish'n" stead of "wish'n" Did you fish the shrimp under a CT or on the bottom, freeline, ?? Did you happen to catch a water temp?
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
the shrimp guy on the boat, fished them under a CT about 20" deep with a small weight to keep them down.. sorry really didn't pay attention to the water temp..
Water temps for Sunday started out around 67 and climbed to a touch over 70 before we headed in. This is some January weather. The temps were a few degrees cooler in the river and in deeper water but I don't think it ever was below 66.
