Decided to be "sacreligious" today and take the boat to church with me....it looked to be too nice of a day to not attempt to go out.

We got down to the Fort around 2:45 and were greeted by a few folks waiting to load and launch. At 3:00, we were on our way  We decided to go east and try a few spots over near the Rock Garden. There was already an "armada" there with most boats fishing inshore in what I guessed to be the 2-3 ft. range. I decided to start in 5-6 ft. and move in closer with the drift. First cast landed a keeper trout. Second cast, another. This went on for a few minutes before the shorts got in on the action. After 10 minutes, we had 4 keepers in the cooler and they were still biting. The wind was quite steady to say the least (15-20) so I decided to take of the CT and go with just a jig. They continued to bite until we got into the 2 ft. range, then they just quit. We ran back out to 5-6 ft. and they started again.....this drift the spanish got involved. Over the next hour we made two more drifts catching fish on each pass. At 5:00, we had our 3 person limit, so we decided to head home. The ride back in was both windy and wet!!!!! Back at the ramp at 5:30 to wait our turn.........

All in all, it was a great day considering we only fished for about 2 hours. It was much more windy than what the forecast called for in the afternoon, but not unbearable. Visibility was 2-3 ft. and the water temp was about 70. Most of the trout were caught on SureKetch Firetail grubs and Gotcha pink/white fished with/without a CT. The green DOA seemed to work well also if you could keep the spanish off. They wouldn't touch the white. The electric chicken worked well also, but the shorts seemed to like them most. Caught a few pins, which was also a good sign, but no takers. The trout ranged from 15-19" and the spanish were 15-18"...

Here's a few pics of the catch......

Good report Dolphin. I am about to head out the driveway for Keaton. I'm taking a 15 year old that has never been. I hope he doesn't get sick.

Good Report Dolphinatic
I wanted to go, but the winds I was feeling up at the church were more than I wanted to contend with. I'll wait another day before I try again....

Good to hear about the Spanish.

Me and Lucky Strike do that quite often. I don't imagine the Lord thinks any less of us for it. :smt059 Besides, I can't find any place in the Bible that sez its a sin to have a boat hooked behind an F-150 in the church parking lot. I've also found that going to an early (8:15) church service will get ya out of Tallahassee and on the water by 11:00. :-D

Well Dolphinatic your report sure is better than mine. I put in at the LH about 2 pm Sunday went east past grey mare and started drift in 5'. Immediately starting catching shorts. Got in to 2.5-3' and bites stopped. Went further east - tried same type drift - lots of shorts - every cast. Moved back closer to grey mare area - same thing - changed baits - didn't seem to matter - those shorts were starving for anything thrown at them. Could see bottom at 3' but lots of sand stirred up.

Wind started picking up (instead of calming down as forcasted!) headed to shore about 5:30 and it was blowing almost as much as Saturday.

Ended up with 4 keepers about 16" and at least 60 shorts released to grow up. Beats working any day

Don't know what you did different but congratulations on a fine mess of fish. Pictures sure are great.

Hey Sea Gurl... way to hang in there. All things considered, sounds like you made all the right moves. Sometimes it just works out like that. :D Clearer water was the key last Wed... sounds like it's gettting harder to find due to the windy conditions lately.
