Lowrance GPS users

Post by Wheresthefish »

Thought I should let any prospective Lowrance users know about my fun this past week :hammer:

I had a 4800M GPS mounted on my center consul and decided to buy a LMS332C Color GPS/Sonar unit. I was going to mount two separate GPS receivers but then I started to think.....

Perhaps I could share the receiver and sell the receiver that came with the new unit on EBAY to offset the cost ($250 new).

Lowrance wanted $78 for a cable to share the receiver. Decided to try to use the COM-1 ports on the units and get them to talk to each other. Worked on this for days. Finally asked for help from Lowrance, at first they wanted to sell me the cable :smt011 finally convinced them that I did not want to spend the money so they let me know that the software version on the LMS332C has a problem and I would need to update it.

Did the update and presto the new unit was able to receive the GPS data from the first unit. I was also able to transfer all GPS numbers over. Very cool and a nice back-up.

Lesson learned, ask for directions early :smt102
