Steinhatchee Offshore 4.19.2004

Post by Yardarm »

Did another charter with Captain Brian out of Steinhatchee on Tuesday.
I left the camera by the coffee pot . Funny it did not take any pictures.
Had an excellent day. Only 4 fishing and we had 16 keeper grouper and several amberjacks. A few shorts maybe 10 or so.
About 1pm we had out 4 stretches. Got one hit, then another and then bam - bam. Four keeper grouper and all made it to the box. Talk about a Chinese fire drill.
Around 2 it almost slicked off. Not enough wind to anchor over the marker.
Actually the ride in got a little rougher as we hit the sea breeze.

If you don't have a boat to go offshore or the pocket change to get such. Take a look at charters. Actually less expensive than boat ownership. And these guys know when where and how.
Maybe a new thread on boat ownership???

Did you guys use cut bait or livies at all? Sounds like a good trip.

Picked up some pins from the traps. Used the pins, frozen, and a cut up AJ.
All seemed to work about equally well.

I bet that was fun. Brian is a very good guy.

I’m not looking to know where his traps are but at what depth did Brian have them set at? We caught some exceptional pigfish and spottail pinfish in 24 feet out of Steinhatchee the day after you went (hand sized bait).

BBB,

We also hung onto a Jewfish. But he (or she) broke off at depth. Provided the lady with a tug for a while..

The traps were in about 30 feet, but I didnt look at the deep o meter. The traps were full of pins.
Thanks for the report. It is always good to hear about the day after.
