Wakulla Beach Fri 4-29

Post by littlered16 »

Put in right at daylight to catch the last of the incoming tide. Started out in around the oyster bars with only shorts to show. Moved out near Patty's Island at slack tide and started catching right away. Ended up with two 18's in the cooler. Had enough for dinner, left at lunch. Great way to unwind after finals week.
Caught them all on Candy Corn under CT. Depth was anywhere from 1.5-7+ (no depth finder and rod is only 7ft). Both keepers came from shallow stuff. Threw back anything under 16, and I measured at least 5 or 6 that were 15-15.5.

Good report L R. Great to get out and enjoy the flats.
We went to Aucilla yesterday...went westward to the Rock Garden and done about like you did. Caught many shorts....many in the 14 7/8 in range...many in the 10-12 in range too....but managed to get 10 gooduns big enough to keep. All were females...full of roe. Temp was 63.5 in the water....pretty clear till you got out in the 6-7 ft range. Most were caught on C/T with candy corn jigs. :P

Hoping to head out there tomorrow. If I get a chance to go I'll post a report. Think I might try to catch a few reds. Any trout that decided to bite will be gladly reeled in as well though. :-D

Good luck Nathan down at Wakulla Beach. I ran down there Monday morning and waded the oyster bars for a couple hours on an incoming morning tide and pulled in six shorties before 10 am. Trout were hitting just about anything on a CT - seemed to like a chartreuse DOA or anything especially bright and visible. Not the largest trout I've pulled in off that bar but some of the most consistant action I've had since going down there. Hope you find some keepers! I'll be in a meeting all day tomorrow, but hope to head down there Saturday AM if the weather holds.

FYI - On Monday morning, it was evident that St. Marks has done some serious work to improve the Wakulla Beach Road. No more drainage ditches running across the middle of the road!
