Launched at the Lighthouse at 6:30 and headed for Grey Mare and excited about fishing top-water. However, I tried a chugbug, top dog, and a couple others all morning with no takers ..only the occasional swirl. Most of our luck came on live shrimp/CT and Jig/CT. Moved out to deeper water and started catching blue runners ( hardtails) and sharks on our CT's. A friend of mine on board who has never been saltwater fishing said he saw another fish follow a shark he caught to the boat but I didn't see it. About 10 minutes later as I was pulling in another small shark I saw the 2 cobia at the edge of the boat. All I could do was point and say "Ling" until I finally was able to bark an order to get a line in the water. As soon as the jig/CT hit the water, my guest hooked an 18.5# 38 inch Cobia. After 20 minutes, despite knowing better, I put the fish in the boat and it proceeded to beat the hell out of everything inside the boat. Much like every other cobia I have caught and boated too quickly. Thank goodness this one was only 18.5 #. I'll try to get some pics later.
