Bro-in-law with 35" gag
Fishing was supposed to start @ 7am on Friday, but when women and children are concerned plan on a extra hour. Finally loaded we head towards O-river. About 1/2 way there the Chevy starts sputtin and sputtering, a quick glance at the gas needle and we still have an 1/8 tank, enough to get to the next gas station. Then the gas needle quickly rotates past empty and the fuel light come on and she shuts down, so much for a warning. A nice morning 1/4 mile walk to the gas station and we are off again. We made it out to the shoals caught about 3 dozen live bait and headed south. The plan was to go to an aj hole and catch a limit. The seas were not accommodating as we stopped about 15 miles out and started trolling. Picked up a nice keeper gag in about 30 minutes and picked up and ran on the aj hole. By this time both parents were sick. My sister and I started catching aj's trying to pick up a 5 person limit. A large something or nother about pulled me in as a locked drag is not a good thing catching aj's, possibly barracuda. We caught 4 keepers and umpteen shorts and decided that last keeper aj wasn't worth the energy. My nephew reeled in his 1st aj by himself. By now the day is mostly gone with two sick people on the boat, but the seas had laid down to glassy with rollers. We ran back to the earlier trolling spot and trolled again. Picked up a couple and anchored and caught 11 more. Caught a sea turtle, rather, hooked a sea turtle. Had to pass the rod.
Sunday: Bro-in-law had bragging rights with a 35" gag, sister and wife both had 30" gags. We found the spot trolling, not much showing on the depth finder. We used the fire tiger and pink and whichever was on braid did the best. Seas were 1-2 except going in, much nicer than Friday. Surface water temp ~78. We fished from 55-62. Live bait caught the larger gags while dead bait caught the most. Ended the day with 14 keepers(5 red).
