Scallops, Limit, and I'll tell you just where to get them!!!

Post by DuctTapeKing »

Rock Star, the God Father, and myself decided to do a little scalloping this 4th of July weekend. So we got a place and meet up for the weekend. First off this place was the biggest dump ever. I've never been so happy I didn't bring the wife and kids...they would have been miserable. Even old saltly's would think it was disgusting..but I digress. My buddie has a new pontoon boat so we head off the first morning. Man those things are slow, but sure do make it easy to drink a bunch of beer. We head south and as we get toward the scalloping grounds i see on the horizon what looks like a white sand beach. Nope it is all the boats. There were over 500 boats stretched out for miles. As far as the eye could see, We are all experienced scalloper's so it was nice to get a limit after only a five stops. We never found them thick but we did find them enough to pick up a scallop every minute or two. The second day was about the same. I did enjoy have some interesting looking bottom while scalloping. Lots of sandy patches, coral, small fishes and other salt water things. Better than just looking at grass. So where is this magic honey hole for scallops????? Between Hommassas and Crystal River. The scallops were small, but the meat inside was rather large for the shell size. Yall go pick them up and don't even worry about trying around here!!!!!!!

It is a couple hours drive, that why I didn't think anyone would mind me posting the location. I didn't see any sharks just a few rays. There where so many boats (500+) that I felt confidant that if a shark wanted fresh human flesh he would go for a kid on the outskirts, but really with so many boats and so many motors I'm sure almost all large fish left for less populated waters. I felt very safe up in the middle of all them scallopers and boats...ofcourse I kept poping my head up every few minutes and for sure didn't get too far from the boat..not because of the sharks, just the boat that may not see me. They all stayed away!!!
