St. Marks 8/14/05 Murphy's Law: Reds!

Post by Sharkman »

The day started out terrible. Everything went wrong! Trolling motor stopped working, trim & tilt wasn't working, live well pump stopped working, threw a knot in my braided line when casting a spoon, grabbed a rod rigged w/ a chug bug and the line had wrapped around the snap ring to the trebles on the lure, a boat beat me to my first spot (honey hole) while I was messing w/ stuff, and a boat motored in between me and the oyster bar that I was fishing in my second spot and spooked the reds that were there. All this happened before 9AM. I almost turned and went home for the day and gave up to Murphy's Law. I decided to try 3 more of my spots since it was still early and then call it quits. :smt009

Believe it or not, it turned out to be a great day. On the last spot before going home, I caught 11 reds (for a total of 13 on the day - 27" was the biggest) and the smallest cobia I had ever seen. One trout made it a grand slam although I don't know if it counts w/ a cobia that small. I had a big shark on 80lb leader and it cut me off. It was fun even though I lost it!

The worst day ever turned out to be one of the best!!! :smt004

Very cool! Hangin' in there sure paid off for ya! Can you tell us more about where you got those reds. Not exactly where of course, but the depth, structure, proximity to the coast, etc. And what did you catch them on?

Thanks for reportin'!
