West Side Story 8/21
Well, everybodies gone. Everything's all cleaned up and put away from Dad's 70th B-Day party/fish fry. Decided to take a break after all that work over the weekend and left the house a little before 5 this afternoon in the edge of a thunder-boomer. Went to a point in the marsh that I know on the west side of Goose bay. Parked on the highway and walked in. This point has a small tidal creek that empties on a sandy/muddyish flat with a small oyster bar just off to the side. Fishin' at 5:30, at 6 I got a strike. At 6:30 they really turned on. Between the biting flies and the redfish I wasn't getting no break. Released 9, kept 1, lost 3 by 8 this evening. The one I kept was the first one I caught and was a shade under 27. One red was short enough to be under the slot. Most of the rest were over.
All reds and one short trout. Couldn't buy a keeper trout.
Started with a red/white Bass-O-Reno and went to a 7M28 MirrOLure later on.
Didn't lose any lures this time, but did lose my pliers. Oh well, they were just a rusty pair of hardware store needle-nose anyway. Nothing special. Also lost my pocket knife, but found that again on top of the oyster bar where I sat for a smoke and to retie.
The mackerel were sky-rocketing all over to the north of me, but out of casting range.
Saw a funny kind of track in the sandy part of the marsh next to the woods on the way out. It was indistinct with the ground being so wet, but then it occurred to me I was following a 'gator. He had turned off into the high grass after a little bit, so I never did get to see him.

Great job Charles. Glad to hear you found your pocket knife!! I don't know how you feel about yours but it's always tramatic when mine comes up missing.... start search'n what I wore last...etc.
Would like to ask you one question... what kind of gear do you use (rod/reel) and what test/kind of terminal tackle do you rig up with? Thanks and like dave7 said, keep the reports coming! Don't bother get'n up with TC... he'll just mess things up

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
Coffee sounds good, TC, or maybe we could get together and go fishing.
SR, I use all kinds of tackle depending on what I'm doing. Have several fly and light spinning outfits. However, normally, and for no-foolin'-around-fishin'-for-groceries, I use a 6' Berkley Lightning Rod with an Ambassadeur 5600C4 loaded with 12 lb. test Ande Premium with a big plug tied on. Something the size of a 52M MirrOLure is about the smallest thing I use for trout and reds. No leader, just tie directly to the line, normally with uni-knot. For years I used the 5500C3 Ambassadeurs and still like, and have, those. I also like Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, but for now I'm using the Ande.
