Walker Creek 9/4

Post by Charles »

Okay, I give up. I'm an idiot. I just spent the last couple hours in the Test Section trying figure out how to post pictures. I got them from my camera to my computer. I got them from my computer to flickr. I just can't seem to get them from flickr to here.

Anyway, here's the Redfishing Machine in full dress.

<exasperated sigh> I hope the link works.

Anyway, on to the fishing. Started fishing at 6:45. North wind keeping things nice and cool. Started getting hits immediately on topwater. Less than 3' deep over good grass bottom. Caught an even dozen trout, mostly in the slot, but a few shorts. Kept 4, gotta keep the slot open for the one over 20". About 8:20 moved further up the creek looking for a red. Fiddled around for hours looking for a red. No red. No big trout either. Saw an eagle take a fish from an osprey in flight. That was pretty cool. Flipper over there busting mullet. Lots of bait moving.

Went back to the little trout after the tide started back in. All shorts, now. Nothing in the slot and they didn't really want it. Just kind of slappin' at it, playin' with it. Gave it up.

As I was driving up the highway from the island I saw a boat working one of the oyster bars I had worked a couple hours earlier. Hope he did better than me. :-)

I used those lights this morning. :-D

Okay, a little background. The boat, and a small electric motor that went with it and was trashed years ago, were won by my Grandma Pulley in some promotional thing very many years ago and always known as the Co-Cola Boat.

Until now it was just a kind of kick-around boat for the grandkids to play with. In an act of desperation to get back on the water as quickly and financially frugally as possible, I went out and got a motor, battery, registration, safety equipment and some other odds and ends, so I wouldn't have to keep walking to the fish.

I have found that this boat will go just about as shallow as I can wade with wet feet. In fact, I have found that when it's too shallow for this boat I might as well be walking.

I also think it would make a good lay-out boat for duck hunting, but in those bright colors it might only work on Alabama ducks.

I'm also considering a trailer for it. What do ya'll think? Double-axle? Think I'll need a triple for when the cooler's full of ice?

Gonna' have to get a second battery before I need to worry about the federal restrictions on grouper.

I hear you, TinCan.

Charles, you better get at least a double axle to haul all the fish that boat is going to produce for you.
