Went down to the island yesterday to get some yard work done. Noticed the conditions while I was there and said, "Hmmm." Checked on a few things when I got home and put everything on the back burner.
Went wade fishing today in time to fish the low in the middle of the day. Took the Refishing Machine just to carry the cooler, my pack and an extra rod, nothing else. Started out from the beach at 10:30. By 11 I was where I wanted to be and had the first slot trout in the cooler. Started with a used-to-be-chrome TopDog Jr., but the water was so choppy they seemed to be having trouble zeroing in on it. Switched to a 7M28 MirrOLure and 20 minutes later I had my fifth slot trout in hand. "Well now, this is no fun. A limit in 20 minutes and nothing but trout?" I had released that many more shorts. With 4 trout in the cooler I decided to move on in search of a trout over 20 and to see what else was around. For a little while it was a trout on just about every cast, but all in the slot or short, nothing big. I don't know how many, I quit counting after the fifth keeper. Released a few ladyfish, a few pinfish and kept one 20" Spanish that had a hankerin' for a 7M MirrOLure. Why do pins hit a lure that's almost as big as they are?
The action slowed significantly after the tide started in. The water coming in on the tide from deeper water was significantly cooler than the water from the flats.
I finally called it a day with a limit of slot trout and one Spanish in the cooler, after releasing many undersize and slot trout.
The water's as clear as I've seen it since Dennis. Maybe 4' vis. I think part of it's this northish wind we've been having. The wind doesn't have as many places to blow onshore and stir up the bottom.
Sounds like my kinda way ta kill a few hours seems latly, if the Trout are bitimg, the Reds aint and visa-versa

To me, the problem with limiting out in a short period of time like that, maybe especially if you know it's going to happen, is it seems rather anticlimatic. Heck, it took almost that long to walk/wade out there. Needed fish at the house, though. We ran out Tuesday. I went Tuesday late afternoon and had the wife looking at me a little side-ways when I came home with an empty cooler.
I'll keep fishing there, though. We have caught keeper cobia out of that spot once in a while. A keeper cobe on a twelve lb. baitcasting outfit in waist deep water presents it's own unique set of problems.
Saw some pretty good size whelks and pinshells while I was wading. Sometimes I'll pick those up for the cooler, but didn't this time.
Didn't see any scallops. Unusual for there at this time of year. Even on a bad year there's normally a few scattered around. I even spent a little time specifically looking for them and didn't find any.
You can count on doing reel maintenance to get the saltwater out of it when you get home.
There's a good chance that everything including your hat is going under water during the "landing" wrestling match. This doesn't work with a green fish.
