Goldspoon flies and blue and white clousers seem to be pretty popular for Reds.

Search on here for reports from Noleflyfisher - he seems to be the most avid fly fisherman on here and has good reports.

For the topwater lures, I've been catching reds mostly on MirrOLure TopDog Jrs. and 7Ms, and Rapala Skitter Walks. Chrome, red/yellow, red/white and speckled trout have all been productive colors, but I don't think color really matters much. Particularly with a topwater where the fish is below it looking up at it.

For flies I don't really know.

Flies: Clouser's are hard to beat as an all around pattern. I like a sparsely tied chartreuse over white with small dumbell eyes. Orange and white is another good color combo. If the fish are playing hard to get (or if sheepshead are on the flat), I like to use an olive and brown Mangrove Critter with an orange egg sack or a crab pattern like a Merkin or McCrab. When fishing a crab or mangrove critter the key is to fish it slow or let it sit and give it a twitch when the fish is on top of it. Other flies that'll work are spoon flies, Kwans, bendbacks, seaducers, and an all black leech (believe it or not). 90% of my fish are caught on a Clouser or Mangrove Critter (because one or the other is on my rod 90% of the time).

Lures: If I'm sightfishing, I like a texas rigged jerkworm (new penny). If the wind is up or if I am blind casting, I'll use a clear or niteglow doa. A lot of folks like to fish gold spoons and Wevans catches a bunch on top water.

Good luck.

Out of our last three trips what put the first red in the boat, spoon man...
