Econfina 9/17

Got to ramp about 8:30, and WOW! the water was LOW!! We (My Father-In-Law and I) put the boat in and SLOWLY idled down the river. The lowest tide I have ever seen their but we made it out safely at idle speed. Fishing was slow and sporadic at first, we would catch one every 15 - 25 minutes. Then about noon the trout heated up. We started catching them at a rate of about every other cast with sometimes two or three cast in a row would net a fish. That lasted till about 2:30 and then slowed down some more. The only problem was they were all short of the slot. We caught roughly 40-50 fish with only 5 keepers. But it was still a lot of fun. The trout came in on jigs on the bottom, color did not seem to mater too much we used red, chartreuse, candy corn and electric chicken. Caught two small sharks on live and cut pinfish off a Cajun Thunder but that was it. They would not hit the the cork-and-jig combos at all. Also the best fishing was in 5-6 foot where the water was clearer. Shallower the water was dirtier and the bites were very slow. The last cast of the day brought in a 12" Gag Grouper off a Assassin eel. My first ever grouper, and in 6 feet of water!!

Good deal. Ya need to go back to Econfina on a winter extreme tide. It'll get lower.
What was I supposed to do today?
