Keaton - 25 & 26

Post by muckalee »

Fished all day Sunday and Monday out of Keaton. Started Sunday just off Piney Pt in depths from 3 - 6 ft. Water was stirred up and trout were few and far between. Worked north above Dekle in the afternoon and still the water was murky and few trout to speak of. Had to resort to cork slinging with pinfish strips to put some trout in the bucket :smt011 . Caught lots of trash fish (ladyfish, sharks and sailcats) but did manage 13 keeper specs by days end. Long, hard day of fishing on Sunday. Monday morning ran south of Piney Pt til we finally found some clearer water - that was the ticket. We caught trout all day in 3 - 4 feet throwing jigs and weightless flukes. Stayed in the fish anywhere between big grassy and just south of piney. Lots of shorts, but we had our limit around lunch. Between the 3 of us, we probably caught and released 150 short trout throughout the day (mostly 13 and 14 in). Managed to add a nice red and spanish to the box and got off the water by 5. Weather was nice and overcast most of the day and the breeze was just right to keep us cool and comfortable. Once we get a little cooler weather and that water temp drops a couple degrees, the trout ought to turn on. Looking forward to heading back down in a couple weeks and find some bigger fish - but for a warm, late summer trip, can't complain.

Ok - correction - maybe the big trout will turn on with the cooler weather.
