Left the canoe livery at 8:30. I was hoping today's weather was going to be the same as yesterday's. Instead it's

Met this young'un. He actually let me get almost within arms reach. . . . . . one of the several times I had to go get my lure out of a bush. Good long range accuracy, like all the way across the river, but my short game needs work.

Image

Ran into this guy again. This is a photo from last week, same 'gator. Too far off to get a shot this time.

Image

Whatever these are, they looked purdy, so I got a shot.

Image

"They followed me home. Can I keep'um Ma'? Huh? Can I keep'um?"
Everything today hit this 3/8 oz. black/yellow Snagless Sally w/yellow/white pork strip. Of course that was all they hit, because they didn't have a choice. That was about all I threw. :D
The ruler's in the pic just for good measure.

This one was taking a bath at the Lower Bridge county ramp when I got back to the livery. Flew up on the sign as I pulled in. He should have been up the river. Squirrels were moving all over this afternoon.

Wound up the day, back at the canoe livery a little after 5. Saw a manatee, but the opportunity for a shot never presented itself.

TC, you were right. I didn't keep count, but most of the fish I caught today were Suwannee bass. :D

Sometimes the same lures that worked 20 yrs. ago still work. :D

Charles, Looks like a great trip.

I'm almost certain your photo of the red flower is a cardinalflower The scientific name is Lobelia cardinalis. Its a plant that is usually found along forested streams and rivers. The nectar is often used by butterflies and hummingbirds. Of course I could be wrong its been about 10 years since I was in Taxonomy of Spermatophytes at Mississippi State.

Thanks, Birddog.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.

Nearly all the bass I've caught out of the Wakulla in the last three trips are relating to fallen wood. Particularly if it's completely submerged, but up off the river bottom.

Good deal, Charles. Never pass up a cast at a piece of horrizontal structure.

The camera's not anything fancy, I don't guess. It's one that was given to me for Christmas last year. A Canon PowerShot A400, 3.2 megapixel.

The water was much clearer than the last two times I went to the river. Several times I could see the bass as he approached my Snagless Sally, the take, and the entire fight until he was in the boat.
