Tilt and Trim Trouble

Post by Wheresthefish »

In July I was at St. Augustine. Great GPS maps and running full bore. Forgot about the fact that the hurricanes might have moved the sand bars :o

Hit a sand bar in 6" of water (35 knots to zero in 1 second!). I have a 21' Kenner with a 90 HP outboard. :smt010

After getting the boat off the sand bar I noticed as I was going back to the ramp the engine tilt cylinder would bleed down. In fact at 20 knots or so the raise button would not raise the motor. I would have to stop, raise the motor and go.... Once it bled down I would need to repeat.

I do not see any signs of oil leakage.

What should I do? Can I just disconnect the hoses and take the cylinder apart and check the seals? Should I be concerned with the cylinder being under pressure? Is the cylinder under pressure down or up?

A lot of silly questions but I don't want to cause anymore damage to my boat or myself :smt014

TILT & TRIM

SOUNDS LIKE YOU BLEW AN O RING. BREAK DOWN THE CYLINDER AND REPLACE THE O RINGS ON THE INTERIOR RAM, THIS SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.
