Tilt and Trim Trouble
Posted: October 10th, 2005, 8:36 pm
In July I was at St. Augustine. Great GPS maps and running full bore. Forgot about the fact that the hurricanes might have moved the sand bars
Hit a sand bar in 6" of water (35 knots to zero in 1 second!). I have a 21' Kenner with a 90 HP outboard.
After getting the boat off the sand bar I noticed as I was going back to the ramp the engine tilt cylinder would bleed down. In fact at 20 knots or so the raise button would not raise the motor. I would have to stop, raise the motor and go.... Once it bled down I would need to repeat.
I do not see any signs of oil leakage.
What should I do? Can I just disconnect the hoses and take the cylinder apart and check the seals? Should I be concerned with the cylinder being under pressure? Is the cylinder under pressure down or up?
A lot of silly questions but I don't want to cause anymore damage to my boat or myself
