St. Marks 11-11-2005
Took my son on Friday for his 3rd career fishing trip. The weather was nicer and fish bit better than his previous 2 trips. After getting breakfast, loading the boat and fixing the trolling motor we arrived on the water at the crack of 11am. I wanted to fish the falling tide in a creek where I had caught fish during the last tournament.
After getting anchored up I pitched a shrimp under a cork out to the end of an oyster bar and proceeded to rig up my son's rod. About that time the cork went under and the fight was on.
After a quick fight a nice 17 incher came to the boat.
After we adjusted the boat a little bit I thought we were on the spot because Jackson caught 3 fish in 3 casts and then they quit.
We moved down towards grey mare and set up a drift. The tide was dropping good now and the water was a little stained. But it wasn't log before Jackson put another fish in the boat and I caught a decent 19 incher on a weightless jerkbait. By now it was around 2 pm so I asked Jackson if he wanted to go home or keep fishing. Then I heard those words that I have said to my dad countless times.
"I want to keep fishing Daddy."
So we did. We caught a few more when Jackson said he wanted to catch 2 more. Well he did that...in 2 casts. After releasing his 8th fish of the day (7 keepers) he said he was ready to go. I said OK and we left a good bite for a smooth ride back to the ramp.
We ended up catching only 11 fish for the day but nearly all were keepers. It was a stellar day. I'm ready to go again and take my partner.

Tom.....I decided to do the same thing Friday. Me and a few guy friends took the boys out fishing at Lanark since we were camping at Ochlockonee State Park. We caught grouper again all day long and managed 3 gags in the 20 lb. range Got some nice break offs too.. I haven't posted the report because I am waiting on the pics.....a friend of mine used his camera and he hasn't sent me the photos yet. There's nothing like having a great day on the water and actually catching nice fish when the kids are with you
I used to let my son decide when to go home, too. We would be on the water before daylight, and he'd let me quit about 10 minutes after dark.catchin1 wrote:Good report Tom. Good deal letting him decide when its time to leave. I almost ruined my oldest son on fishing, making him stay out there all day when I would go.
Tom. looks like ya have a decent partner, there. Keep his string wet.
What was I supposed to do today?
